Aussie Day 2

We're remote enough here that we can't get much of a wi fi signal. So, by the time this is posted we might be home. But, here goes nonetheless.

We woke up early, since we are still adjusting to the two hour time difference. We had some breakfast in, and then went for a drive. We drove first down to Seven Mile Beach, which is close enough to walk to. The sand was pristine, like something out of a movie. And, except for two guys fishing from the beach, we had the whole seven miles to ourselves. The water was a deep blue and gorgeous. I'll attach pictures later.






After a time there we drove up the mountains to Kangaroo Valley. On the way, we saw some pelicans. We've seen most of the characters from Finding Nemo. As we were flying in, watching the water in Sydney Harbor, Anne leaned over and said, "I see Nemo."



The drive to Kangaroo Valley was almost as gorgeous as the drive through Waiheke Island, and much better weather. I am excited to report that I had the first wallaby sighting. We also saw two on the side of the road. Another first: wallaby roadkill.


We headed into town, and had lunch at a local pub. It looked a bit like the pub at the beginning of Crocodile Dundee. After lunch, we walked around to do a bit of shopping in the town. Things here seem more expensive than in NZ.



We went back, and on the way stopped to pick up some groceries. We saw lots of school kids in uniforms noshing on chips. It was fun to hear teenagers gossiping with accents. It makes their teen dramas sound more important. Billie told us that the kids who aren't in uniforms are skipping class. Apparently they have a lot of trouble with kids in this area. It brought to light the fact that we saw very little trash and graffiti in NZ but have seen a bit here. However, nothing at all like in the States.

We headed home a bit tired. I think our week on NZ is catching up with us.
